About the event
About Vienna Salsa Congress 2018
There was something special about arriving in Vienna in December: the cold outside, the Christmas lights, and the thought of a whole weekend of dancing ahead. Vienna Salsa Congress brought dancers from different countries together for workshops, afternoon socials and nights that stretched towards morning. Salsa and cha cha gave the weekend its rhythm, while each new partner offered another way to hear the music. But some of its most memorable moments happened beyond the dance floor: the train ride together, the walk through the city, and the Christmas market pre-party. Wrapped in winter coats, dancers shared the streets of Vienna before sharing another song. Between the lights, the cold air and a warm cup of mulled wine, there was time to talk, laugh and discover the people behind the dances. Across its editions, the congress made Vienna part of the experience. Later editions found a striking setting at Palais Auersperg, where historic rooms and chandeliers added a little grandeur to the simple pleasure of sharing a dance. Yet the memories worth keeping were often smaller than the setting: recognising a face from the city walk, finding that person again during the night, or stepping outside with tired feet and still hearing the last song in your head. The weekend had begun with strangers arriving from different places. Saying goodbye could feel very different. These past editions hold a little of that warmth: winter streets, music, shared journeys and encounters that outlasted the weekend. Long after returning home, a familiar melody can still bring Vienna close again.
